So many review services, so little time! I’m plucking away at these–some free, some paid. You can read my experiences with each below.
- 10.06.14: The reviewer I was paired with knew a lot about science fiction and I got a stellar, professionally written review. You can read it here.
- ROI: An awesome review I can post everywhere.
SanFranciscoBookReview.com [$125.00]: Paid service founded in 2008.
- 11.02.014: The reviewer I was paired didn’t appreciate the length of my first book (276+K). It was obvious he only skimmed it, because the plot details in his review weren’t even accurate. Nevertheless, he said much of the story was exactly what he was looking for in a sci fi novel and ended up giving me 3/5 stars. I declined the review mostly because it was so poorly written and knew it would confuse readers. They gave me advertising to compensate, which did nothing for me in terms of sales, but did produce some hits.

- ROI: A learning experience.
ReadingDeals.com [$19.99]: 10 reviews, free to readers, MOBI only, could take months for readers to complete reviews to Amazon. Reviews are posted by the individual reviewers when they finish the book. Honor system. I was assured they strive for honest, authentic reviews and have seen no abuse from reviewers to date. They give readers three months to complete reviews. If no one bites by then, you get a refund.
- 08.14.15: Submission date.
